This shot was taken early last spring on one of my many trips to the flint hills. As the weather slowly slides from winter to spring the urge to visit such places begins to really take hold. The spring burns will begin to take place within the next few weeks, ridding the tallgrass prairie of it’s winter stance of big bluestem, little bluestem, indian grasses, switch grasses and dozens more native plants. All in order to make way for the lush new growth waiting to come alive with the warming weather.

The seasonal change in the flint hills is one of the most dramatic and inspiring sights of nature. The midwest is blessed with such shows of change. Still a few weeks away, one can only wait patiently as the annual magic takes place. The circle of life is the strongest in such places that are lucky enough to experience the changing of the seasons.
