Appears we are getting some relief from the stifling heat wave we have been going through the last few weeks. Of course I had to get out in it at least one more time before it cooled off.  There are a few plants that to me just ooze of summer and the hotter climate and one of them is the thistle. There are a varieties that can be unwelcome due to the aggressive nature of the plant such as the bull thistle. This particular one is the wavy leaf thistle. And though it can become dominant on overgrazed land for the foremost it is not as aggressive as others. Native Americans used the roots of the wavy leaf thistle as a food source and and to make medicinal tea to be used as a wash to treat eye diseases in people ans livestock.
