Washed In Gold

Somewhere in the middle stretch of Kansas Flint Hills, possibly Wabaunsee Co. there are very seldom traveled areas that crisscross north south and east west through the open landscape. It was on one of these roads I decided to stop and walk to the top of a small hill on the side of the old dirt road.
At first glance I thought the view was nice, but maybe not supper special. Like most times I hung around awhile. exploring up and down the old road. Enjoy a few small wildflower growing the ditches. Listening to the late summer birds enjoy the now cooling temperatures. As the late afternoon progressed I began to notice how the sun was beginning to shine on the distant slopes of the hills. Even though clouds were present there were moments when the suns golden rays would boldly break through like the spot light onto a performers stage.
I began to realize this may be a more special place than I had first imagined. After a few more long peaceful moments had past, Mother Nature made her presence know in grand style. Filling the land and sky with warm glowing light assuring me my wait had not been in vain. Nature has a way of unfolding itself if one simply remains patient and allows her to do so.
