Exploring nature and the great outdoors is special anytime of the year. There are times it also becomes a bit more challenging. There are always certain challenges, which typically are made more apparent by the weather. Being more a cool weather person, winter always is a special time. Everything changes. Colors, textures, light, mood. All have their place and all help to form each photograph.
It was a cold winter morning after a night of freezing temperatures, with a bit of snow and ice. Off I went to the prairies in search of Winter. It wasn’t hard to find, it was everywhere. From the powerlines with hanging ice cycles, to the tallgrasses, and ice coated trees. Why does the landscape seem to magical in the winter? Maybe it is just the kid in me and others that wants to remember the times of snow days from school, sledding down a favorite hill, and finding our way home with frozen fingers and toes after a day of winter play.
On the wooded edge where the grasslands come to meet the woodland I found this quaint intimate scene with colors and textures that matched both the day and feeling of the season.
