Cowbirds. Any time now these brown and black feathered friends will be showing up in flocks ready to hitch a ride on every cow they can find.
Their numbers dwindle in winter (they must not like cold cows) and begin to pick back up in spring and then the heaviest in the heat of summer.
This was taken last spring as I made a drive through the flint hills. They seemed to be following me down a fence line flying from post to post staying just in front of my truck. Not a typical shot I would plan on taking but it’s hard to pass up such wonderful sights of wildlife.
They don’t spook very easy so they make a good avian subject to shoot.
